Woman plays matchmaker for differently abled
Mumbai's 84-year old Prabha Pense has been playing matchmaker for the differently abled for the last 22 years. In the case of Prabha Pense, a resident of Mumbai's Shivaji Park, one is neveoo old to play cupid. The octogenarian plays matchmaker to singles and all are differently r tabled.
Pense, a former teacher for hearing impaired children, has brought lonely singletons together for the past 22 years, running a marriage bureau from her Dadar home. So far, Pense has successfully arranged some 450 marriages. Her jam packed meet-and-greet events encourage her to carry on her business. At times, she even pays out of her own pocket for the marriage ceremonies of poor clients
One satisfied client Shailesh Kulkarni said that he contacted Pense four years ago, with his facial palsy and speech defect being major hurdles in his search for a life partner. "It is tough for someone like me to get a match, we tried through the usual channels, but nothing worked out," Kulkarni said. Within a week of contacting Pense, he met his wife Vineeta, who also had a speech defect. "What a satisfaction, they're all my daughters and all my sons," Pense said. Health issues have forced Pense to slow down her matchmaking business, but the enquiries, she says don't stop. For so many differently-abled hopefuls, the dedicated matchmaker was made in heaven.
